Commissioners & Staff
The Gorge Commission has 13 members. The governors of Oregon and Washington each choose three members, and one from each state must live in the National Scenic Area. Each of the six Gorge counties also select one member. The U.S. Secretary of Agriculture chooses one non-voting member who must be from the USDA Forest Service. The Gorge Commission’s leadership includes a Chair and Vice-Chair. This structure helps create a fair balance of state and local voices across Washington and Oregon.
A professional staff provides support for the Gorge Commission and handles its day-to-day business from an office in White Salmon, Washington.
The Gorge Commission and staff partner with the USDA Forest Service, the states of Oregon and Washington, the six counties within the National Scenic Area, and the four tribal nations with treaty rights on the Columbia River. This partnership also works with nearly 100 other governments and non-governmental entities.
